BIOGRAPHY
Creating visual art has been my lifelong passion. My art is representational, with an
emphasis on spontaneity, expression, color and painterly qualities. I am particularily
interested in painting the world around me, in direct observation.
I am a graduate of Cornell University, with concentration in Communication Arts. After
service with the US Peace Corps in Peru, I embarked on a career as a graphic designer in
New York City. Art direction work with Scholastic Magazines, Madison Square Garden and
advertising agencies followed. I currently works in graphic design and brand
consultation for Churchill & Co., a Long Island based marketing communications firm.
While working in the commercial art field, I studied fine art at Parsons School of
Design and The School of Visual Arts. Courses included typography, design, drawing, silk
screen printing, illustration, pastel, watercolor, oil painting, and color theory.
Teachers of particular influence at Parsons Emily Elman in color and expression,
Christine Anderson in watercolor, and Anne Coffer in typography. Nick Meglin, editor
emeritus of Mad Magazine and my drawing teacher at Parsons, inspired me to look at
the world and set it down in a sketch book.
I am a member of The Art League of Nassau County and the National Art League; I am an
active exhibitor in both leagues, and a long-time board member of the Art League of Nassau County. I received a Gold Medal in Watercolor from the National Art League for Bennett Monument, number 5 in this exhibition. Professional illustration clients include Scholastic Magazines, Standard & Poor’s, and others. My pastel painting of Madison Square circa 1900 was selected as the Madison Square Garden 100th Anniversary 2004 Holiday Card. |
